On Saturday, July 11, theBavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by itsprincipal conductor Sir Simon Rattle, will open the music weekend with a program dedicated entirely to the American composer George Gershwin.Pianist Kirill Gerstein will make his debut as soloist, performing the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in F major. The evening will also feature the overture to "Let 'Em Eat Cake," the orchestral medley "Porgy and Bess: Symphonic Picture" arranged by Robert Russell Bennett, and the tone poem "An American in Paris."

2nd day of concerts

On Sunday, July 12, theMunich Philharmonic Orchestrawill take to the stage under its designatedprincipal conductor Lahav Shani, who has already thrilled audiences at Odeonsplatz for the past two years. Acclaimed violinist Janine Jansen returns to Klassik am Odeonsplatzas soloist with Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1, one of the most important works in the violin repertoire. The concert will be framed by the overture to Richard Wagner's "The Flying Dutchman" and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Symphony No. 3 ("Scottish").
