On Saturday, July 11, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by its Chief Conductor Sir Simon Rattle, opens the festival weekend with a program dedicated entirely to the American composer George Gershwin. Pianist Kirill Gerstein will make his debut as soloist, performing the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in F major. The evening will also feature the overture to "Let 'Em Eat Cake", the orchestral medley "Porgy and Bess: Symphonic Picture" arranged by Robert Russell Bennett, and the tone poem "An American in Paris".

On Sunday, July 12, theMunich Philharmonicwill take the stage under its designatedchief conductor, Lahav Shani, who has already thrilled audiences at Odeonsplatz over the past two years. Spanish violinist María Dueñas will make her debut as a soloistat “Klassik am Odeonsplatz” in Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1, one of the most significant works in the violin repertoire. The concert will be framed by the overture to Richard Wagner’s *The Flying Dutchman* and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Symphony No. 3 (“Scottish”).
