María Dueñas will replace Janine Jansen at "Klassik am Odeonsplatz" in 2026
The Spanish violinist is set to make her debut at the 25th anniversary edition of Munich’s most beautiful open-air classical music festival.
Munich, July 7, 2026: Janine Jansen has unfortunately had to cancel her performance at Klassik am Odeonsplatz on Sunday, July 12, 2026, due to health reasons. The organizers of Klassik am Odeonsplatz regret the cancellation and wish Janine Jansen a speedy recovery. With María Dueñas, they have secured one of the most exciting violinists of her generation for the concert evening with the Munich Philharmonic under the baton of its designated chief conductor, Lahav Shani.
María Dueñas is among the outstanding young violinists on the international classical music scene. Born in Granada in 2002, the musician has been under exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon since 2022. In 2025, she was named Young Artist of the Year at the Gramophone Classical Music Awards.
The evening’s program remains unchanged: On Sunday, July 12, the Munich Philharmonic will perform the second concert under the baton of its designated chief conductor, Lahav Shani. Together with María Dueñas, they will perform Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1, one of the most significant works in the violin repertoire. The program will also feature Richard Wagner’s overture to *The Flying Dutchman* and Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3, “Scottish.”
This means that the 25th edition of *Klassik am Odeonsplatz* will feature two debuts. Pianist Kirill Gerstein will make his debut on Saturday, July 11. Under the baton of its principal conductor, Sir Simon Rattle, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra will open the anniversary weekend with a program entirely dedicated to the music of George Gershwin. Together with Kirill Gerstein, the orchestra will perform the Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in F Major. The program also features the overture to “Let ’Em Eat Cake,” the orchestral medley “Porgy and Bess: Symphonic Picture,” and the tone poem “An American in Paris.”
